Study background 

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a gold standard treatment in patients with renal stones >20 mm in diameter. Several in vitro and laboratory model studies provided robust evidence on Swiss LithoClast® Trilogy efficiency. This modern, single-probe device delivers both ultrasonic energy and electromagnetic ballistic impact with a simultaneous suction capability.

Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (Mini-PCNL) is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure that requires a specific technique, as it utilizes relatively small instruments within restricted diameter access (to even 5 French or smaller). Treating renal calculi through the narrow working lumen of mini-nephroscopes represents the major challenge when conducting mini-PCNL.

Intrarenal pressure levels with different suction levels were evaluated for Storz® Nephroscopes MIP-M and MIP-L in combination with Swiss LithoClast® Trilogy probes in an ex vivo porcine kidney model.

Swiss LithoClast®️ Trilogy has been designed to provide powerful fragmentation and more efficient stone removal for shorter PCNL procedural time. Scientific research proves this effectiveness, in comparison to other, existing lithotripters, as well as in actual OR cases.
In a new study, Lattarulo et al. tested the Swiss LithoClast Trilogy in vitro and in vivo in porcine model, and concluded that the device is twice as fast on both soft and hard stones as compared with best competitors.

 

Swiss LithoClast Trilogy: A European Multicenter Prospective Study

Multicenter single arm study to evaluate safety and effectiveness of Lithoclast Trilogy in a larger number of patients. 

Ten European clinical centers participate in this prospective, non-randomized trial.

EMS Lithoclast Trilogy: an effective single-probe dual-energy lithotripter for mini and standard PCNL

Providing fast, easy, and safe percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) appears to be one of the most challenging issues in modern urology. In order to break the stones more effectively, a combination of different energy sources is needed. Swiss LithoClast® Trilogy is an all-in-one-probe, dual-energy lithotripter that combines electromagnetic impactor and ultrasonic vibration with suction capability. This study describes the initial clinical use of Swiss Lithoclast® Trilogy in patients who underwent Mini or Standard PCNL for stone evacuation.
